About skin piercing
To offer skin-piercing treatments including tattooing, semi-permanent skin colouring, acupuncture, ear and cosmetic piercing, both the premises and the person performing the treatment must be registered with the Local Council.
Registration protects the public from blood borne viruses such as HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and other infections.
Fees and rules
You must provide specific information including details of your premises and any previous convictions for practicing without a licence in this field.
Premises registration fee is £185.00
Operator registration fee is £70.00

Can I practice if I have not received a response to my application for a Licence?
No, it is in the public interest that the authority must process your application before it can be granted. If you have not heard from the Council within a reasonable period, please contact it. You can do this online if you applied by the UK Welcomes service or contact us at:

If a registration is suspended or cancelled the registration holder may appeal to the county court.
We would always advise that if a complaint is made that you make contact with the trader yourself by letter with proof of delivery.
