Information for Developers
The Government's planning guidance advises you to submit enough information with your planning application to determine the risks from contamination. It states that you must also prove to the local planning authority that there is a realistic option for treating the site.
Developers are required to undertake investigations and make recommendations for addressing contamination as a condition of planning approval. The Council needs to make sure that land is, or will be made, suitable for any new use.
Before you submit your application consult the Council and, if necessary, the Environment Agency for advice on making sure contamination is dealt with to protect the environment and providing a site that is suitable for use. It is useful to do this as we may have additional information about which you may be unaware.
