Introduction

The webpage provides information on the aims of this particular service area. It also provides details of the service level you should expect and how to contact us for further information.

Community Development focuses on enabling local groups develop their projects that link into the Council's main objectives. This can range from health promotion projects, sports activities or regeneration of market towns and villages.

The Council's officers assist through providing expert advice, links to funding opportunities, training and support. The key areas are

  • Development of sports projects with young people to help reduce anti social behaviour.
  • Promotion of health such as Food safety training, avoid falls campaigns safer sun
  • Grant aid advice on a diverse range of subjects.
  • Supporting local communities to help themselves
  • Supporting local business to work together to improve their area
  • Cascading regional and national initiatives and funding into local groups

Aims and Targets

REVIEW THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PLAN
for 2006 onwards via extensive consultation with the public — autumn 2005 and publish in spring 2006.

WORK WITH WYCOMBE LEISURE LTD to proactively increase use of the leisure facilities by the community — ongoing

THAMES VALLEY YOUTH GAMES - we will work with local schools and clubs to enter a variety of junior sporting teams in the event—aim for 100 young people taking part on 9th July 2005

SPORTSZONE - this project will continue to be delivered in Pond Park, at Chesham Youth Centre and Chesham Leisure Centre—aim for weekly attendance of 20 young people.

Sports Zone was rolled out to Prestwood - summer 2005 aim for 20 young people during summer holiday sessions

STREET ART PROJECT -
this will be held in Pond Park during the Easter/half term and summer holidays.  The aim is to prevent illegal graffiti occurring on building site hoardings in Pond Park—aim for 30 per session.

VILLAGE APPRAISALS— For Towns and Villages. We will organise work programs to produce positive actions to meet local issues.

SENIOR SAFETY DAY— Held at Prestwood to increase awareness of safety opportunities and improving quality of life for older people.—aim for 100 attending April 2005

VOLUNTARY SECTOR—provide support and assistance including funding advice—aim for 6 successful funding applications through the year.

The Council has a Corporate Complaints Procedure. We have produced a leaflet on 'How To Make A Complaint'. This explains how to make a complaint against any Council Service. Examples of key achievements 2004/5

Health Promotion

The Health Promotion Officer co-ordinated a Senior Safety Day in Chalfont St Peter with 170 members of the public attended this highly successful event. Another very successful event took place in Prestwood.

670 pupils (9-11yrs) from schools with Chiltern District attended the Hazard Alley Safety Centre,.  The aim of Hazard Alley is to provide an interactive learning experience for pupils

We are continuing to develop the 'Get Fit Avoid Falls' project, an exercise programmes for older people who have fallen/at risk of falling.

SPORTSZONE was formed, delivering football and other activities to children and young people living in Pond Park.  Have also extended this to children and young people living in other areas of Chesham, delivered at the Youth Centre and Sports Centre in Chesham.

A football match was organised in Nov 2004 between young people in Pond Park and the Police / Fire Service this achieved improved relations. 

LAUNCH OF THE MUGA (Pond Park)
In September 2004 an event was organised to celebrate completion of the multi use games area.  This event attracted circa 60 children and young people from Pond Park as well as parents and other members of the community.  A whole host of activities were enjoyed, including football, basketball, a bouncy castle and mobile climbing wall.

Voluntary sector
A quarterly funding newsletter, 24 / 7 website funding service, input into funding compact for all voluntary sector and assistance to 50 community groups
