Domestic Abuse

Introduction

Introduction

The Home Office describes domestic abuse as:

"Any incident of threatening behaviour violence or abuse: psychological, physical, sexual, financial or emotional between adults, who are or have been in a relationship, or between family members, regardless of gender or sexuality"

Anyone can be a victim, regardless of age, gender, race, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, disability or financial circumstances.

Domestic abuse is a serious criminal offence, which has the highest number of repeat victims in the UK.

All forms of domestic abuse, psychological, economic, emotional and physical come from the abuser's desire for power and control over other family members or intimate partners.

The Domestic Violence Crime and Victims Act (2004) is new legislation to help protect people experiencing domestic abuse and intimidation.

You have the right to expect a life free from violence, abuse and intimidation.

You don't have to put up with it.
