Activity of the Fraud Partnership

In the past year the Chiltern & South Bucks Fraud partnership has carried out 143 investigations, some of which have resulted in prosecution and custodial sentences. Fraudsters have been forced to pay back £180,000 overpaid Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit and through the Proceeds of Crime Act, these fraudulent claimants have had to pay over an additional £20,000.

In six cases an Administrative Penalty was applied resulting in £28,669 of penalties being added to the amount of overpaid Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit the claimant had to pay back.

For some lesser offences, thirteen Individuals have been issued a verbal or written caution or warning. If they are caught claiming fraudulently, then they are open to prosecution and loss of entitlement to all benefits for two weeks or more.
