Chiltern Lifestyle Centre moves a step closer

A new leisure and community facility for Chiltern District has moved a step closer this week as the planning application for the Chiltern Lifestyle Centre has been submitted.

The application is to build a state-of-the-art leisure, sports and community building in King George V Road and replace the existing buildings on the site; Chiltern Pools, Drake Hall, Chiltern Youth Centre and Amersham Library, excluding the Annex and Barn Hall.

If planning permission is granted, the new Chiltern Lifestyle Centre will feature a gym, a spa, an 8-lane 25 metre swimming pool, a diving / teaching pool, a children's splash pad area, a four badminton court sports hall, squash courts, a climbing wall, library, café area and community centre.

As with any planning application, a consultation period is part of the planning process. Residents can view the plans and submit comments via the planning portal for the Planning Committee to consider. The consultation period is open until Thursday 3rd January.

Chiltern District Council's Deputy Leader Cllr Mike Stannard, Cabinet Member for Support Services, said: "The planning application being submitted is an exciting milestone.

"We had a fantastic response from our public information events during the autumn and were delighted to see that over 86% of people supported the proposals.

"As well as the overwhelming public support, there were some questions and concerns from local residents and that's why we held the information events asking for feedback which we have now addressed.

"There is a further opportunity for people to express their views during the planning consultation period and I would like to encourage anyone who is interested in the project to do so, via the planning portal using reference PL/18/4593/RC."

The proposed Chiltern Lifestyle Centre project will be financed by capital investment, external funding from a range of agencies and turnover from the centre and is not expected to result in additional cost to council tax payers.
