Supporting businesses affected by national rates revaluation

Over a hundred small businesses in Chiltern are set to benefit from a new Discretionary Business Rates Relief Scheme.

Many businesses in Chiltern have seen significant increases in their business rates since the Government undertook a national revaluation of businesses premises. From 1st April 2017, all premises in the District were assigned a new 'rateable value' by the Valuation Office, used to calculate the level of business rates charged to the occupier.

As a result of the revaluation Central Government has given the council £196k in 2017/18 to allocate to local businesses who fall within the criteria Chiltern DC has set for the scheme.

Businesses that have seen a rate increase of over £500, and have a rateable value of under £200k have been invited to apply for relief which could see a 50% relief in year one (2017/2018) against any increase.

Those hardest hit have been written to and the Council will issue revised bills where eligibility criteria is met.

If you feel you may be entitled to extra help, and have not received a form, please email revenue@chiltern.gov.uk and a form and guidance will be issued.
