Submitting Planning Applications

The development management process promotes timely, beneficial and sustainable development. It supports a proactive approach, encouraging pre-application engagement to provide clear advice for applicants prior to the submission of planning applications. Planning applications are assessed by the Planning section to ensure that proposed developments conform to the requirements of the Council's Adopted Development Plan Policies, as well as national policy. Chiltern is predominantly a rural district, with a large proportion being designated as Green Belt land. The majority of the district is also within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. These national designations are important constraints to development in the district and require a careful approach to development.

Before submitting an application

Some works do not require planning permission, and information relating to these can be found here.

To obtain advice relating to a proposal prior to submitting a formal planning application, you can use our pre-application/post decision advice service.

Making an application

Guidance is available to help you make applications. Application forms are available to download. A sample plan demonstrating the information requirements for pdf icon validation [115kb] purposes can be viewed online.

Once a decision has been made

You may have to submit details relating to conditions before any works take place on the site.
