Referendums
Referendums are held occasionally in the UK. Since 1973 there have been eleven referendums in the UK, but only two of these covered the whole country. Major referendums have always been on constitutional issues.
On 5 May 2011 a UK-wide referendum was carried out asking whether or not to change the voting system used to elect Members of Parliament to the House of Commons.
