Are you Registered?

If you have recently moved to the district, or have just turned 18, and would like to be added to the Register of Electors, you will need to complete a pdf icon Voter Registration Form [170kb] and send this to Electoral Services (elections@chiltern.gov.uk). You are not automatically registered, even if you pay Council Tax. If you are unsure whether you are already registered you can check by contacting Electoral Services. If you have responded to the Annual Canvass, which takes place every autumn to ensure the register is up-to-date, it is likely that you are already registered.

Why Register?

Registering to vote gives you a say on important issues that affect you. If you are not on the Electoral Register, you can't vote. Registering to vote does not mean you have to vote, it just means you can if you want to. If you are not on the Elector Register you may have difficulty in obtaining credit which could impact on applications for mortgages, credit cards, mobile phones, etc.

Who can register?

  • Anyone eligible aged 16 or over (you cannot vote until
    you are 18)
  • British or qualifying Commonwealth citizens
  • Citizens of the Republic of Ireland or other
    European Union (EU) member states.

Absent Vote Signature Refresh

Absent Voters (those registered to vote by post) are required to provide a signature and date of birth when they first apply.

When we send out ballot papers for elections to postal voters, they are again required to provide their signature and date of birth.  This is then checked against the original application to ensure they match.  This helps to stop voting fraud. It does NOT mean the vote can be identified.

At the end of January, all Absent Voters whose signature is more than 5 years old were required to provide a fresh signature. We wrote to those persons concerned to request a new signature.
