Parking for Your Safety
Where and how you park your car can be just as important for your car's security!
When choosing a place to park follow these basic tips:
- Leave your vehicle in a well lit location, preferably visible to passers by
- If possible reverse into the parking space so that you can get away quickly in an emergency
- When returning to your vehicle have your keys ready and quickly look at the back seat just to make sure no one has climbed in
- Choose a car park that is well supervised with restricted entry and exit points and CCTV cameras
In Summary
For the security of your car and its contents you should park somewhere well lit, and preferably in a car park meeting the Secured Car Parks standard.
Lock all doors, close windows and use any security devices you have. Make sure that if you must leave belongings in your vehicle they are not left in view.
At home, use your garage if you have one. If you don't have a garage leave your car on the driveway or somewhere where you can see it easily from your home and where others are also likely to be able to see it.
