Exercise Referral & Falls Prevention Services

There are a range of special exercise programmes running in Chiltern District:-

Exercise Referral Scheme (Active for Health)

Would your health benefit from becoming more active?

Do you need help with:

• Losing weight and weight management
• Managing stress and anxiety
• Reducing the risk or controlling Type II diabetes
• Improving lung function
• Lack of movement and mobility caused by joint and muscle problems such as arthritis
• Increasing strength and flexibility
• Controlling blood pressure
• Reducing the risk or controlling, when present, coronary heart disease
• Balance and co ordination
• Preventing falls
• Having a healthier lifestyle and living life to the full

If your GP or health professional, such as a physiotherapist or nurse specialist, feels that your health would benefit from you becoming more physically active, they may refer you to your local Nexus leisure centre.

There you will be offered a free consultation with a clinical exercise specialist who will be able to give you advice on an individual, safe and effective activity programme designed especially with you and your health concerns in mind. You will be entitled to 20 sessions at a subsidised cost for each session

The programme includes:
• Gym
• Aqua aerobics
• Aqua therapy
• Seated prevention of falls classes
• Studio programmes such as "legs, tums and bums"
• Pilates
• Tai Chi for Balance
• Exercise Special circuit class
• "Active Hearts" cardiac rehab
• Stroke rehab

Get Fit Avoid Falls

Get Fit Avoid Falls is a programme to improve balance and confidence in carrying out everyday activities.

Sessions are held once a week for 12 weeks. 

You will take part in gentle exercises which are known to improve strength, balance and flexibility.

Cost:   Level 1 Sessions are FREE OF CHARGE.

The Team will arrange to assess you at home so they can understand your needs and ensure the programme is right for you.

Sessions are held in:  Chalfont St Peter, Chesham, Princess Risborough, High Wycombe, Aylesbury and Buckingham.
