Building Works

In general keep normal working hours for construction and building works between 8.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday and 8.00am to 1.00pm on Saturdays. No noisy works should take place outside of these hours and not on Sundays or Bank Holidays.

If construction work becomes a nuisance to surrounding properties the Council has extensive powers to control noise and other nuisance from building sites under the Control of Pollution Act 1974 and the Environmental Protection Act 1990 if informal action fails to solve any problems. This can involve prescribing working hours and methods.

It is good practice to give neighbours who may be affected at least 48 hours notice of likely disturbance and a point of contact should they have any concerns or complaints during demolition and/or construction periods. Don't use of radios on site in circumstances where they may cause annoyance.

Noise from DIY can result in complaints being made by your neighbours. Speak to your neighbour and try and agree reasonable hours for noisy activities. If this doesn't resolve the situation we would recommend that you contact Mediation Buckinghamshire.
