Flooding

Flooding causes more than just a water problem - each agency has its own responsibilities. Chiltern District Council has produced this information to show local residents which agency is responsible for what. These agencies will help where they can but remember it is YOU - not the Environment Agency, not the local council and not the emergency services - who is primarily responsible for protecting your property by means of insurance and any means you can. It is your responsibility to look after your property however, the emergency services, local authorities and public utility services will try to help where they can.

Although the District Council has no legal responsibility to protect private property from flooding - we do have a stock of empty sandbags that we supply, free of charge, either from our main reception or from Chesham Town council. Local builders merchants can usually supply the sand.
